Inspired by Jake’s post about how modern pickups look better sans-chrome, I configured the three major competitors in the segment to be as cheap and “sporty” as possible. Regular cab, short bed, V8, body-color grille, and the sportiest wheels possible.
Up first, the Chevy Silverado “Black Out Edition”
5.3 EcoTec3 V8, 20" black wheels, and an unpainted bumper. $31,335
Up next, the RAM 1500 Express
5.7 Hemi, 8-speed auto, 20" chrome wheels. $31,270
Finally, the Ford F-150 XL w/ XL Sport Appearance Package
5.0 Coyote V8, 17" wheels, and a 3.55 Electronic Locking Axle Ratio. $30,025

To be fair I also tried to configure a Tundra this way. Toyota doesn’t offer anything close to this configuration. I also attempted to do the same for a Titan but was unable to due to becoming violently ill just looking at the Titan.

I don’t really like any of them...

That’s too bad, I think they’re all pretty good looking.

Usually I prefer RAM trucks to Chevy as far as appearance goes but damn that Silverado look good, and the 5.3 Ecotec3 V8 is an absolute beast.

What about GMC?

I like all three of them. Too bad that regular can trucks aren’t available in higher trim levels.

My thoughts exactly, I think the Silverado is the looker of the group. The Express has been my long time favorite, but the 5.7 is getting old.

Configuration hell. Can’t seem to get a regular cab with a body colored grille.

The configuration stupidity is frustrating. I love the GMC Sierra “Elevation Edition” but that package is only available on crew cab pickups. Similarly, I couldn’t put bigger wheels on the F-150 despite Ford offering them on other models.
With the 20" wheels the F-150 looks pretty tough.

You could have done it with the 4.3L V6 Ecotec3 thats 280hp (~300 hp on E85) beast of a motor and id still take it over the other two.

Yeah, but sweet LS power only cost $1000 more.

The Silverado reminds me of the 90 SS 454 pickups. Chevy needs to stick the LT1 or 4 in a special black out edition

Yes, yes they do... and the Lightning needs to come back, and RAM should Hellcat the Express.

The Lightning has been around as the Raptor for a few years now.

High horsepower street trucks, not the Baja pre-runner Raptor.

A co-worker of mine leased the 2016 Midnight Edition (upscale version of the Black Out basically) and it is fucking sharp looking.

It’s significantly more money though. There is the “black ram package” on the Express, but to me it looks like someone got carried away with plasti-dip.

Neat, didn’t know they’d moved to LT based motors. It explains the power the 5.3 and 6.2 make now.

Someone that works in my building has a Ram Express (or R/T, or Sport - whatever you wanna call it) dropped, and it looks badass.

Yep the 6.2l is a LT1 modified for trucks
